Thread gauges can be used to determine whether the thread being inspected falls within the specified tolerances.
Thread gauge pins are used for internal threads.
A thread gauge pin consists of a good and a reject site:
The good one has to be able to be screwed in effortlessly over it's entire length. If this isn't possible, the internal thread is too small.
The reject one is marked in red. It can be screwed in a maximum of two turns. If it can be screwed in deeper, the internal thread is too large.
Thread gauge rings are used for external threads.
Thread gauge rings are divided into go and no-go:
The thread profile of the go ring has to be able to be fully screwed onto the thread to ensure that it's dimensionally accurate.
The mo-go ring is marked in red. It has a shortened thread pitch and may be screwed on by a maximum of two turns to ensure the thread is dimensionally accurate.
